The Department of Economic Affairs and Communication is responsible for public diplomacy efforts, media relations, liaising with Swiss companies and outreach to the community for the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York.
To further Switzerland's public diplomacy agenda, the department organizes various public events throughout the year on themes of importance to the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. From innovation to sustainability, business, technology, science, democracy and humanitarian affairs, the department advocates Swiss interests and helps to promote a modern and innovative Switzerland rooted in the 21st century.
As one of the representations using social media for public diplomacy, the Consulate General maintains an active online presence. The Department of Economic Affairs and Communication manages social media and engages Americans and Swiss interested in news about Switzerland, Swiss events in New York, and Swiss-American relations. Furthermore, the department handles all media inquiries and manages press relations with American journalists and Swiss correspondents in New York.
The Department of Economic Affairs and Communication also works with the Swiss Business Hub and the swissnexBoston New York Outpost to build relationships between companies in Switzerland and the US. Additionally, the department monitors news on Wall Street and reports on the financial industry's influence in the US and Switzerland.
Representatives from the Department of Economic Affairs and Communication regularly meet with members of the community and give presentations on Swiss topics to companies, student groups, and the media.
