Support to the Judiciary in Bosnia and Herzegovina - Strengthening Prosecutors in the Criminal Justice System

BiH initiated important legislative and policy reforms in the justice sector in the view to strengthen the rule of law, as important step towards European integration. These reforms are still ongoing. The project provides support to BiH's authorities in shaping the prosecutorial system, in improving criminal investigations, in establishing tools for executing prosecutorial functions more efficiently, effectively and transparently, and in fostering the public's trust into the work of the prosecutors' offices.

Long-term farming system comparisons in the tropics

Agriculture based on high external inputs resulted in productivity increases but has high negative external costs. Alternative systems such as organic agriculture exist but information on their economic, environmental and social performance is scarce. This long-term system comparison led by the Swiss-based Research Institute for Organic Agriculture (FiBL) provides scientific evidence on the productivity and profitability of organic agriculture compared to conventional agriculture in four production systems of the tropics.

SYR UNDP Livelihood Restoration

Humanitarian and livelihoods needs have increased twelve fold since the beginning of the crisis in Syria with 12.2 million people now in need of humanitarian assistance; all affected in their livelihoods and are experiencing deteriorating living conditions. The proposed project for the Restoration of Livelihoods of Syrian Affected population aims at strengthening the resilience of the crisis affected communities and people by ensuring (i) the restoration of livelihoods to stimulate local recovery and (ii) the rehabilitation of basic services and infrastructure while mainstreaming resilience-based planning into all activities ensuring a conflict sensitive programming focused on targeting the most vulnerable groups and the hard to reach areas.

SYR FAO Emergency food security and livelihood assistance

The prolonged crisis in Syria is severely hampering the fundament of food security, in terms of access, availability, utilization and stabilization. It is assumed that the situation will continue to deteriorate in the affected Governorates, Aleppo, AI Hassakeh, AI Raqqa, Deir Ezzor, Hama, Horns, ldleb and Rural Damascus, especially for the neediest strata of the affected populations composed of women and children who would not be able to meet their basic needs of food and nutrition security requirement if no external emergency support is provided. The project focuses on the provision of key agriculture inputs (cereal and vegetable seeds, poultry) and farming skills to vulnerable households (HH) to empower them to produce their own food and meet the basic food and nutrition requirements of their families.

Liberia: crise Ebola – achat et envoi de matériel de protection

The current Ebola outbreak across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone has surpassed all other outbreaks in terms of cases, deaths and geographic spread. The Multilateral organizations and the Governments’ bodies have beefed up their responses in the affected countries in their respective fields. Human and financial resources needs have increased and the Ministry of health and Social Welfare of Liberia has requested supports in in-kind medical materials and consumables.

Strengthening Social Accountability and Oversight in Health and Agriculture

This project aims to contribute to the equitable, effective and accountable allocation and use of public resources for health and agriculture in SADC countries by addressing social accountability in a systemic approach in strengthening the roles of relevant parliamentary committees, civil society organizations, smallholder farmer organisations and the media. The first phase of the project will focus on Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia.

Youth Friendly Health Services in Moldova

In Moldova, young people face various health challenges which are currently not adequately addressed by health services. To improve this situation, Youth Friendly Health Services started as pilots in 2005 and are being scaled-up by the Ministry of Health since 2011, with the support of SDC. The project is focused on improving the quality and enhancing the comprehensiveness of the services, as well as on the community support for young people to adopt a healthier lifestyle and seek assistance from health services.

Support for the third International Conference on Financing for Sustainable Development

Switzerland will engage in strategic advocacy and policy influencing partnerships to strengthen its position in the financing for sustainable development process leading up to the 2015 Financing for Development conference in Addis Ababa, and to enhance the preparatory process and the outcome in line with Swiss priorities, in particular by ensuring that the voice of the Private Sector is heard throughout the process.

Global Credit Coordination Office South Sudan

An action under the office's Global Credit is a one-off contribution to a development or humanitarian endeavour, with a duration of maximum 1,5 years, i.e. no following phase. It is a flexible, efficient and transparent tool to support the implementation and further development of its Cooperation Strategy, as well as further enhancing the quality of the resulting interventions. It permits seizing opportunities to improve the visibility of the Swiss presence and the Swiss Profile in South Sudan. It also provides the means for implementing SDC's Policy on promoting culture.
