WFP Country Strategic Plan 2024 Malawi - Allocation of SDC Funding to El Nino Response

Against historic levels of food insecurity due to conflicts, climate change and COVID-19, Switzerland annually supports about 40 SDC priority countries operations of the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide humanitarian and development assistance. It funds WFP Country Strategy Plans, incorporating all programmes or projects, based on affected population needs and potential synergies with other local partners, especially national governments and civil society.


Forum international (IFT) sur le Total Official Support for Sustainable Development (TOSSD) - Contribution de membre de la Suisse

Le Total Official Support for Sustainable Development (TOSSD) est un cadre statistique visant à garantir un système cohérent, comparable et harmonisé pour suivre les investissements liés aux objectifs du développement durable (ODD). Le standard est supervisé par le Forum international sur le TOSSD (IFT). La Suisse notifie ses données au TOSSD depuis 2019. En tant que membre de l’IFT, elle contribue au développement conceptuel et stratégique de la mesure.


Decentralisation for inclusive development

Mozambique implements the decentralization reform as agreed in the Maputo Peace Agreement brokered by Switzerland in 2018. Considering political power sharing highly relevant for the country’s stability, the programme supports the effective implementation of the decentralisation’s policies and reforms. The interventions aim to improve the quality of basic services delivered by local governments in Niassa and Nampula provinces, and to enhance accountability, transparency, inclusion and equity in the local decision-making processes through civic participation. 


Lebanon Direct Action - Bekaa Water Management Programme (BWMP)

By improving water infrastructures and implementing evidence-based management at the Bekaa Water Establishment, continuous access to water will be provided to the population in the Bekaa. This project implemented as a direct Swiss humanitarian action will improve the health and well-being of the population, particularly the most vulnerable.

Add. Allocation of SDC Funding (Africa Division) in 2024 to ICRC Operations in South Sudan

SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence. In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises.


Chad, MSF Emerg. Resp. SUD Crisis 2024

This contribution aims to support MSF’s emergency response to the needs of refugees and returnees having fled the war in Sudan as well as host communities in Eastern Chad. By ensuring access to quality healthcare and providing water and sanitation services for refugees as well as host communities in Adré and at Aboutengué/Ourang camp, MSF contributes to reducing illness and mortality rates among the conflict-affected people and improve their living conditions.

2024 Additional allocation to WFP Country Strategic Plans (NHF)

The war in Sudan entered its second year. Sudan is facing a major humanitarian catastrophe. The conflict also affected neighbouring countries, in particular Chad and South Sudan who are already struggling with a dire humanitarian situation that pre-existed before the conflict broke out. The consequences of the war exacerbated the acute food insecurity situation in those countries. With additional funding, SDC reinforces WFP’s emergency response to deliver life-saving food and nutrition assistance in Sudan, Chad and South Sudan.


Ukraine, Contribution UNHCR 2024-26

Humanitarian needs in Ukraine remain high, particularly affecting the internally displaced and vulnerable populations. Switzerland is committed to support UNHCR's humanitarian efforts, which provide life-saving protection and assistance i nfrontline areas for 2.7 million people. Contribution to UNHCR's work in Ukraine is aligned with Switzerland's strategic interest of strengthening the resilience of the Ukrainian people and responding to emergency needs.


Strategic Partnership with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR)

Promoting respect for human rights is a Swiss foreign policy goal and a pillar of its international cooperation, as the denial of human rights is one of the main factors of poverty. With a multi-year contribution to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, which supports civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, SDC, complementary to the Peace and Human Rights Division, contributes to mainstreaming human rights in sustainable development activities.

The Office of Emergency Programmes (EMOPS) ensures that the United Nations Children’s Fund’s (UNICEF) role in complex emergencies is clearly defined, the organization properly equipped and prepared to deliver its mandate to support the needs of children. SDC’s support to EMOPS in Geneva enables UNICEF to lead inter-agency humanitarian coordination, response and standard setting in Water and Sanitation (WASH), Education, Nutrition and Child Protection.


Safeguard Young People (SYP) - Tanzania

Safeguard Young People Programme

With 62% of its population below 25 years, the Safeguard Young People (SYP) programme supports Tanzania’s demographic dividend. The project advances young people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) through a gender-responsive and inclusive policy environment, empowered youth who make informed decisions, and responsive health and education systems. SYP builds on 10 years of regional experience and UNFPA’s expertise.
