Contribution to UN OCHA’s office oPt for the coordination of the “Flash Appeal Occupied Palestinian Territory”
SDC allocates an additional credit to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) for responding to urgent needs generated in the framework of the ongoing Israel and Gaza crisis. Funding to UN OCHA for oPt enables the office to continue coordinating the “Flash Appeal Occupied Palestinian Territory” and, as a result, to actively contribute to responding and providing immediate protection and life-saving assistance to people affected by the current crisis. In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises.

Hintergrund |
OCHA is the arm of the UN Secretariat that is responsible for the coordination of the UN emergency response system. The mandate of OCHA is derived from UN General Assembly Resolution 46/182. UN OCHA plays a key role globally and in the MENA region, where it coordinates humanitarian assistance and response, including in the oPt. Switzerland focuses its support to UN OCHA operations in its own priority countries through annual contributions softly earmarked to UN OCHA offices, as well as through supporting Country-Based Pool Funds (CBPFs). UN OCHA plays a crucial role in coordinating humanitarian assistance and response, namely in the framework of the current “Flash Appeal Occupied Palestinian Territory”, to which Switzerland wishes to contribute. The current flash appeal aims at mobilizing USD 1.2 BN and targets 2.7 M, out of 3.1 M PiN in the oPt, both in the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank. |
