The project aims at improving the health environment conditions of the students in public schools and to contribute to restore minimum standards of access to safe drinking water and appropriate sanitation facilities through emergency rehabilitation of the water infrastructures and sewage networks. The project will be implemented by Terre des hommes in coordination with the Ministries of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) and the selected schools. The project is a direct contribution to the emergency and early recovery efforts in the Gaza Strip.

Hintergrund

Children in Gaza have been disproportionally affected by the 51 days of armed conflict in 2014:  out of 2,256 casualties 538 were children, more than 3’000 were injured. 8 schools were destroyed and 250 damaged; many others are still used as shelters for IDPs. Nowadays the schools are overcrowded, unhealthy and don’t meet the minimum standards of hygiene and health. There are increasing risks of contagious related health diseases, negative impacts on the quality of learning and on the psychosocial wellbeing of the children.
