Over the next few weeks, a large number of Swiss tourists will be staying in Brazil for the FIFA World Cup. For this reason, the FDFA has published an information flyer for travellers to Brazil and for the first time is offering a module for major events on the online registration itinerisApp that it launched a year ago. In Brazil itself, Switzerland will be present at a central location: The House of Switzerland, which will be presented for the first time during the World Cup final, will be located in Rio from 10 June to 13 July to stage a fan zone and launch a two-year communications programme with the aim of making Switzerland better known in Brazil and to promote bilateral exchanges in the economic, scientific and cultural fields.

The 2016 Olympic games are to be held in Brazil, the first time in a South American country. Because Brazil is in various respects an interesting country for Switzerland – from trade relations to tourism as well as research and innovation – the Federal Council has decided that Switzerland shall be officially represented at the 2016 Olympic games. A framework programme showcasing Switzerland’s unique strengths will also run from 2014 to 2016.
