Temporary passport

In an emergency the Swiss representation responsible for your place of stay can prepare a provisional passport (emergency passport) on the spot with a minimum of delay. Information on provisional passports will be found on the following website:

Provisional Swiss passports (de, fr, it)

A request (one per person) for a Swiss provisional passport can also be made online on the website below:

Do not hesitate to contact the appropriate Swiss representation if you are in need of a provisional passport.

A temporary passport, which has a maximum validity of one year, may be issued in cases of emergency only. It must be returned to the issuing authority for cancellation after the travel is completed. The passport fee is currently CHF 100.00 for adults and children (see the list of fees available on the right side of this page for the equivalence in USD).

From July 1st, 2009, this type of passport can only be used in conjunction with a valid visa in order to enter the U.S.
