Switzerland supports Enhancing Nutrition in Lao PDR

Switzerland provides CHF 6.7 million for the first phase of the Enhancing Nutrition of Upland Farming Families (ENUFF) project in Lao PDR. The agreement was signed by H.E. Dr. Kikeo Chanthaboury, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment and Mr. Tim Enderlin, Director of Cooperation for the Mekong Region of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

Switzerland Supports Agriculture and Forestry Education Reform in Lao PDR

Switzerland provides CHF 5.1 million to third phase of the project for the Support to the Reform of the Agriculture and Forestry Colleges in Lao PDR (SURAFCO). A respective agreement was signed by H.E. Dr. Phouang Parisak Pravongviengkham, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry and Mr. Tim Enderlin, Director of Cooperation for the Mekong Region of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The renewed funding contributes to the development of skilled human resources needed to promote the modernisation of the agricultural and forestry sector in Lao PDR.


Switzerland Supports the Poverty Reduction Fund in Lao PDR

14.12.2016 — Media release Laos

Switzerland agrees to contribute CHF 18 million to the Poverty Reduction Fund (PRF) to Lao PDR. Mr. Tim Enderlin, Director of Cooperation for the Mekong Region of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Mrs. Thipphakone Chanthavongsa, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Finance formalized the agreement during the Round Table Implementation Meeting in Vientiane Province on the 25th of November, 2016. The renewed funding contributes to the efforts of Lao PDR to implement the National Socio-Economic Plan.

Today, Mr. Tim Enderlin, Regional Director for the Mekong Region of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and Dr. Pham Tuan Phan, CEO of the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Secretariat, signed an agreement for Switzerland´s contribution of 7.4 million US Dollars to the implementation of MRC´s new Strategic Plan 2016 – 2020. Representatives of the Lao National Mekong Commission Secretariat and of MRC´s Development Partners were also present at the signing ceremony at MRC´s Office in Vientiane.

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), responsible for coordinating Swiss development programs in the country, discussed with the Lao Government strategic poverty reduction activities as well as inclusive social and economic development in the country. They also exchanged about principles of an enabling environment. An annual forecasted budget of 17 million USD is planned for the Lao PDR from 2016-2017.

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) invites visitors to this year's BEA (Hall 1.1) to come smell, taste and discover. In its special exhibition entitled 'Beyond one’s own four kitchen walls' it shows by way of seven examples from different continents how it contributes to the reduction of poverty and hunger, and to ecologically sound agriculture. This year's BEA will be held in Bern from 29 April to 8 May 2016.
