Back-stopping Mandate (BSM) for the Focal Point e+i

The focal point employment and income (FP e+i) is in charge of knowledge management and generation, inhouse consulting, linking knowledge-holders, and other tasks for e+i projects and programmes of SDC (and to a certain extent partners). The mandate supports the FP by adding specialised expertise in the three topics vocational skills (VSD), private (PSD) and financial sector development (FSD) and provides general administrative and knowledge management support.

Background

Within SOC's strategic orientation PSD, FSD and VSD are key issues to reduce poverty. Employment stays also a key topic beyond the MDG at the international level. The FP e+i is responsible for positioning, dialog and knowledge management of the three topics within SDC and beyond.

Objectives

Increase the quality and quantity of e+i programmes and projects within SDC and eventually beyond.

Target groups

The knowledge generation and management within the e+i network is targeting SDC staff at headquarters and field offices as well as SDC partners involved in the subjects of PSD, FSD and VSD worldwide.

Medium-term outcomes

The BSM contributes to the overall goal of the FP e+i through knowledge creation and management within the network.

Results

Results from previous phases:  

  • 2 face-to-face network meetings, biannual Savings & Credit Fora, various other thematic events and workshop
  • Guidelines and principles in result measurement in all 3 topics
  • Fostering the M4P approach, advancing the agenda of VSD as well as insurance within SDC and globally
  • Increase in e+i project, improved knowledge in e+i topics
