Swiss Civil Society Organisations Platform on Migration and Development
The government-led debates on migration and development are increasingly promoting a multi-stakeholder approach that highlights the participation of civil society. The project creates a “Swiss Civil Society Organisations (CSO) Platform on Migration and Development” that coordinates and strengthens the contribution of Swiss civil society actors to the policy dialogue and discussions on migration and development at the national and international level. Thereby it contributes to coherent migration policies that support social and economic development.

Background |
The importance of civil society in the international dialogue on migration and development is increasingly acknowledged. Switzerland has a long-standing tradition to involve its civil society in the relevant debates. The Swiss civil society working on migration and development - with their multifaceted role as migrants’ interlocutors, evidence bearers as well as major project implementers - can contribute importantly to shape adequate migration and development policies and assess their relevance and sustainability. |
Objectives |
The contribution of the Swiss civil society to migration and development is strengthened and civil society organizations participate meaningfully in national and global policy dialogues on migration and development as well as in the implementation of relevant policies. |
Target groups |
Members of the Swiss CSO Platform, including NGOs, migrant organizations, research institutions and possibly private sector actors, benefit through the sharing of knowledge and experiences, capacity building and stronger linkages with relevant migration and development stakeholders internationally and nationally. The ultimate beneficiaries are migrants and their families who benefit from the results of a relevant and well-informed and coherent national and global policy dialogue and the increased quality of services provided by CSOs. |
Medium-term outcomes |
Outcome 1: Formalized coordination of the heterogeneous landscape of Swiss civil society organizations working on and interested in migration and development related issues. Outcome 2: Enhanced communication and regular exchange of information with the Swiss government. Outcome 3: Strengthened participation in international processes on migration and development and enhanced dialogue with the corresponding global civil society. |
