In 2018, the African Book Fair gives place of honour to the great women of Africa. A programme of entirely women writers awaits you from 25 to 29 April at this year's Geneva Book Fair. The African Book Fair is supported by the SDC.
Location: Geneva
This year’s African Book Fair is dedicated to powerful women in Africa: From the Dahomey Amazons of precolonial times, a regiment of women who defied armies of men, to the nine ex-wives of a monarch who built Congo, according to the legend recounted by Wilfried N’Sondé, and Bakhita, the heroine of Véronique Olmi, a former slave who turned to religion and dedicated her life to helping poor children. Add to these ‘Iyewa’, a single mother in the story by Louis Camara, and the queen bees who learn to defend themselves against the invaders in the novel by the Tunisian writer Yamen Manaï… These books offer the African Book Fair a perfect opportunity to celebrate both the women who write about their continent and the women who are objects of love, fear or harassment in narratives written by men.
As every year, the Book Fair also welcomes African publishers, many of whom are women, who will make you discover books and talented writers yet to be published in Europe.
Lastly, the Kourouma prize will be awarded to an African author for outstanding clarity of vision.
The African Book Fair, which promotes authors and publishers from Africa, is supported by the SDC.
