„EurAsia Heart – A Swiss Medical Foundation”: On-site medical teaching and training in Eurasian countries focused on cardiovascular diseases, par-ticularly in children.
EurAsia Heart is a Swiss Medical Foundation established in 2006. It consists of a group of medical doctors, led by Swiss cardiac surgeons and cardiologists. On a voluntary basis, experts of EurAsia Heart Foundation offer international cooperation to Eastern European, Asian and African countries in the fields of cardiology, cardiac and vascular surgery, anaesthesia, intensive care and prevention. The interventions strengthen national health systems and enable local teams to treat the entire spectrum of cardiovascular diseases – particularly among children.

Contesto | In developing countries, cardiovascular diseases are a major cause of death in neonates, children, adolescents and adults. Congenital heart diseases are among the most frequent causes of death in children less than five years of age. The current generation of cardiac surgeons in Western Europe-an countries already had experienced teachers and grew up with patients constantly more difficult to treat. By contrast, surgeons in Eastern European, Asian and African countries are confronted, from the beginning, with patients difficult to treat and chronically ill, whose treatment requires the com-mand of complex technologies and advanced knowledge in the operating theatre, as well as in the intensive care unit. For these reasons, many centres in developing countries suffer from high mortality and complication rates – even in simple cases –, and are only able to treat a very limited spectrum of patients in urgent need of cardiac surgery. |
Obiettivi | National health systems and inclusive delivery of high quality health services are strengthened, in particular with respect to cardiovascular diseases. |
