Greek President Karolos Papoulias visited Switzerland on an official visit. This was the first visit by a president of the Hellenic Republic to Switzerland since diplomatic relations between the two countries began 119 years ago.
An international conference on the fight against terrorism is holdat the initiative of the Swiss Chairmanship of the OSCE. The Conference brings together the national counterterrorism coordinators of the OSCE participating States, as well as representatives from civil society and academia.
The first official visit as OSCE Chairperson-in-Office to the priority region of the Western Balkans by the President of the Swiss Confederation, Didier Burkhalter, takes place in April. The visit takes him to Serbia, Albania and Kosovo, where he meets with political decision-makers and discussed the engagement of the Swiss OSCE Chairmanship.
Following the success of the first regional civil society conference in Belgrade at the end of February, the second of four workshops within the framework of the Swiss OSCE Chairmanship is taking place in Vienna from 7-9 April 2014.
Didier Burkhalter, President of the Swiss Confederation and Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), welcomes the decision taken by the Permanent Council of the OSCE to second an observer mission to Ukraine.
Mr Burkhalter's address to the Security Council has allowed him to explain the priorities of the Swiss OSCE Chairmanship and speak about cooperation between the regional security organisations and the United Nations.
