Acquisition of Swiss citizenship

Swiss citizenship may be acquired through birth, naturalisation or renaturalisation.

The fact sheets on this page set out the requirements and procedures for Swiss nationals wishing to apply for Swiss citizenship for their children or foreign spouse.

Applicants living abroad must submit their naturalisation/renaturalisation requests to the Swiss representation that covers their place of residence.

The State Secretariat for Migration decides on all naturalisation/renaturalisation applications submitted by applicants living abroad.

If you think that you are eligible to apply for naturalisation/renaturalisation, please contact the Swiss representation that covers your place of residence to obtain the necessary documentation.
