Patricia Schulz from Geneva re-elected to serve second term in Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women

The Swiss expert Patricia Schulz has been elected on Thursday, 26 June 2014 at the UN headquarters in New York to serve a second mandate as member of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

CEDAW is a body of independent experts based in Geneva that monitors the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. Switzerland congratulates Ms. Schulz for her re-election. Fostering the equality between men and women is one of the priorities of Swiss policy in the field of human rights, both nationally and internationally.

Since her appointment to the Committee in 2011, Ms. Schulz has been designated country rapporteur on several occasions. A former Director of the Swiss Federal Office for equality between women and men, she is familiar with the challenges faced by countries in the reporting cycle, especially when it comes to implementing commitments to human rights. She is also chairing the working group on working methods to improve the Committee’s efficiency. She has devoted great attention to issues such as women in armed conflict, migration and asylum as well as access to justice for women. Ms. Schulz’ unwavering commitment has helped improving the promotion of women’s rights at the international level.
