Bern, Press releases, 18.03.2016

Switzerland deplores the Israeli government's decision to confiscate land in the occupied Palestinian territory to make way for settlements.

The land in question is located south of Jericho and has been declared 'public land' to allow the expansion of Israeli settlements. This amounts to a de facto seizure of Palestinian land in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Switzerland has repeatedly emphasised that the Israeli settlements are illegal under international law and that they seriously compromise Israel's commitment to reaching a two-state solution.

Switzerland calls on the government of Israel to cease all settlement activities and to contribute to a just and lasting peace on the basis of a negotiated two-state solution.
