Equal Opportunities in the FDFA and Global Gender and Women's Issues

The Section for Equal Opportunities and Global Gender and Women's Issues of the FDFA advises the department's top-level management and its directorates on matters concerning equal opportunities in the workplace and ensures coherence in foreign policy activities with regard to women's rights and global gender issues.

The Section for Equal Opportunities in the FDFA and Global Gender and Women's Issues is integrated within the FDFA's General Secretariat. The merger of equal opportunities in the workplace and the dossier on women's human rights in foreign policy and global gender issues has generated synergies and created coherence within the department and in the field of foreign policy.

The section advises the FDFA's top-level management and its directorates on matters concerning equal opportunities in the workplace and ensures coherence in the FDFA's foreign policy activities – including in international development work – with regard to women's rights and global gender issues. To this end it coordinates networking, awareness-raising and the exchange of information among all the directorates of the FDFA and with other federal departments.

An app for women's rights

The Swiss Government developed the Women’s Human Rights App based on a digital database to facilitate UN negotiations. It provides guidance on key issues related to the human rights of women including their legal basis and agreed UN language.
