Switzerland ramps up humanitarian aid as conflict escalates in Gaza

Switzerland has decided to increase its financial aid in order to help provide medicines for use in surgical operations and for emergency medical care, as well as for psychological support for conflict victims in the Gaza Strip. In view of the worsening violence across the entire Palestinian territory including the Gaza Strip, Switzerland calls on the parties to institute a ceasefire immediately.


Switzerland allocates CHF 15 million to flood-damaged Western Balkans

In an effort to help alleviate the massive damage caused by the extreme flooding that hit Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia in May this year, Switzerland has pledged approximately CHF 15 million at an international donor conference. The European Commission, France and Slovenia invited the international community to attend the donor conference in Brussels on 16 July.


Switzerland to chair the Codex Alimentarius Commission

Awilo Ochieng Pernet was elected chairperson of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) on Tuesday 15 July in Geneva. The lawyer has worked for this international food safety regulatory body since 1999 and been Vice-Chairperson of the CAC since 2011. The confidence shown in her by this election strengthens Switzerland in its commitment to safe and fairly traded food.



Switzerland seduces Brazil with the football card

Unofficial talks regarding Switzerland's participation in the Horizon 2020 research programme took place on the fringes of a visit by the European Commission's Director-General for Research and Innovation, Robert-Jan Smits, to CERN in Geneva on 10 July. No official proposal has been made by the European Commission on Switzerland's renewed participation.






Switzerland takes part in EU border control mission EUBAM Libya

Switzerland and the European Union (EU) have today signed an agreement on Switzerland's participation in the European Union Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM Libya). This agreement provides the basis for deploying a Swiss civilian border control specialist to Libya on a one-year mission.
