The Section for Equal Opportunities in the FDFA and Global Gender and Women's Issues is responsible for the foreign policy aspects of Global Gender and Women's Issues. It maintains an overview and ensures coherence in all foreign and development policy activities with regard to women's human rights and global gender issues.
Global Gender and Women's Issues
The Section for Equal Opportunities in the FDFA and Global Gender and Women's Issues pursues – in close cooperation with other FDFA directorates – the implementation of Swiss human rights policy on women and global gender issues in bilateral and multilateral foreign policy.
It formulates Switzerland's position and negotiates in the United Nations General Assembly, Economic and Social Council and Human Rights Council. In addition it cooperates closely with the directorates of the FDFA and with other federal departments to coordinate its activities with domestic policy concerns.
Multilateral foreign policy
The Section is responsible for dealing with the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and coordinates the Swiss delegation and all its activities at the CSW's annual session in March. It cooperates at the strategic level with other states in the implementation of global initiatives. The section is responsible for advocating the theme of women's human rights and global gender issues in various policy areas and activities of the Federal Administration.
Bilateral foreign policy
Its bilateral activities cover the implementation of projects with external project partners from civil society and academia, participation in Switzerland's human rights dialogues on the issue of women's rights, and the drafting of contributions for political consultations with other states and for visits.
