On 20 December 2024, the Federal Council adopted its new Strategy for Africa 2025–2028. Peace and security, prosperity and competitiveness, as well as the environment, democracy and governance are the priorities of the strategy. In view of the growing political and economic importance of the African continent, Switzerland intends to strengthen its partnerships with the continent in the interests of both sides.
Switzerland recognised the Republic of Cape Verde in 1975, the day it declared its independence.
Despite bilateral agreements on technical cooperation, air traffic, and investment protection signed between 1987 and 1991, trade volume between Switzerland and Cape Verde has remained modest.
Cape Verde has a permanent representation in Geneva, which is also accredited as an embassy in Switzerland, and a consulate in Basel. The Swiss Embassy in Dakar (Senegal) is accredited to the Republic of Cape Verde.
Researchers who are citizens of Cape Verde can apply to the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) for Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships.

According to statistics on the Swiss abroad, there were 68 Swiss nationals living in Cape Verde at the end of 2024.
