Following the terrorist attacks in France and Austria, which claimed the lives of many innocent victims, Switzerland stands in solidarity with both neighbouring countries and their populations. On Tuesday, Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis expressed his condolences to his Austrian counterpart Alexander Schallenberg and is in regular contact with the French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.
The FDFA was also deeply saddened by the terrorist attack on the University of Kabul on Monday. More than 20 students lost their lives in this attack. The FDFA strongly condemns all acts of terrorist violence and stresses that respect for human life must be maintained in every situation and under all circumstances.
Switzerland also notes with concern a deterioration in the tone of communication between international actors and calls for unilateral calls for boycotts and threats to be avoided. Unalterable fundamental values such as freedom of expression, mutual respect and dialogue are of great importance to Switzerland. Together with its partners, it will always stand up for these values.
