Statement Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) monitors the political and social situation abroad and issues specific position statements. Switzerland strongly condemns the attack on Goma by the M23, supported by Rwanda, and calls for respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
It urges immediate de-escalation, the protection of civilians, compliance with international humanitarian law and calls the DRC and Rwanda to return to the negotiation table.
Switzerland is gravely concerned by the humanitarian consequences and supports the affected civilian population.
