Statement: India – Pakistan
The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) monitors the political and social situation abroad and issues specific position statements. The FDFA's positions are guided by the objectives, and priorities of Swiss foreign policy as set out, for example, in the Federal Constitution, the Federal Council's foreign policy strategy, and other thematic and geographical strategies.

Switzerland welcomes the India–Pakistan ceasefire recently negotiated. The agreement is a key step towards regional de-escalation. Further dialogue and strengthened trust are vital for achieving lasting peace.
07.05.2025 – The FDFA is concerned about the growing tensions between India and Pakistan
The FDFA is concerned about the growing tensions between India and Pakistan and calls on both parties to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue with the aim of de-escalating the situation.
Last Friday, Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis spoke to his counterparts, Pakistani Foreign Minister Dar and Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar, and called on them to exercise restraint in order to avoid regional escalation (see posts on X: Call with Foreign Minister Dar ; Call with Foreign Minister Jaishankar).
The FDFA currently has no information about affected Swiss nationals. The Swiss representations in Islamabad and New Delhi are in contact with the local authorities.
Currently, around 60 persons are registered on the Travel Admin App for India and around 20 for Pakistan. The register of Swiss Abroad lists around 700 persons for India and around 400 for Pakistan. Swiss nationals in the region are requested to follow the instructions of the local authorities.
