The Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children
The new Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children is designed as a means of implementing the Agenda 2030 / Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular the aspects related to protecting children from violence, abuse, exploitation, neglect, trafficking, torture, child labor, child marriage, and Female Genital Mutilation. Its vision is a world in which every child grows up free from violence by 2030. For this purpose the partnership aims to make societies safer for children and end violence against children everywhere.
The Partnership will engage governments, civil society, academics, young people, the UN, the private sector and others in efforts to keep children safe. It provides a global platform to share lessons learned and best practices, and to facilitate greater cooperation and coordination of common efforts. A set of seven evidence based strategies (INSPIRE) form the basis of all three goals. Pathfinding countries will be early adopters of the Partnership strategy and the seven strategies.
UNICEF is housing the Secretariat for this initiative, together with serving as the fiscal agent for an associated trust fund.

Contexte |
Against the backdrop of increased violence against children, including those escaping conflict and crisis, and with the advent of the new SDGs there is a real opportunity to sharpen the focus of governments on the imperative to keep children safe. The SDGs recognize the fundamental link between protecting children from violence and building more peaceful and prosperous societies. Hence the Partnership was established. It already has traction and was launched on the 12th of July 2016. The coming months will be crucial to sustaining the momentum beyond the launch, thus further securing the success of this initiative. |
Objectifs |
The overall goal of the partnership is to end violence against children, reduce the impact of violence in families, communities and all settings and ensure children’s access to fair and effective institutions and to justice for all by mobilizing an effective multi-stakeholder partnership. There are three goals to reach this overall goal: |

There is close collaboration with other new partnerships, such as Alliance 8.7. Also, the SRSG on Children Affected by Armed Conflict has been involved in setting up the Partnership and will be part of the formal governance structures. The Secretariat is in dialogue with existing partnerships and alliances, such as Together for Girls, to avoid duplication, building on the strengths of what already exists. There has also been outreach to the former Child Protection Working Group, to the disability and education sectors. |
