Contribution to the Global Partnership to End Violence against Children and the Safe to Learn Initiative

1.    Enhanced political will to end violence against children in all forms and settings;

2.    Accelerated action in all countries for multi-sectoral systems to prevent and respond to violence against children; 

3.    Strengthened collaboration and mutual accountability to confront shared threats and develop shared solutions to end violence against children.

Principaux résultats attendus:  

General GPEVAC outputs 2019 - 2021:

1.    Grow demand for change: Global movement to raise awareness, increase understanding, change thinking, inspire action is catalyzed;

2.    Mobilize new resources: Compelling investment case and resource mobilization to end violence is made;

3.    Equip practitioners: Solutions, expertise and resources with all concerned partners are identified and shared; 

4.    Within the GPEVAC framework Safe to Learn envisaged outputs:

i    Policy and legislations that protect children from all forms of violence in and around schools are implemented

ii    Prevention and response at school level for safe and gender-sensitive learning environments is strengthened

iii    Social norms and behavior change towards positive change and gender equality to ensure schools are safe spaces for learning.  

Principaux résultats antérieurs:  

Since the start, GPEVAC has

-    Mobilized 26 governments as Pathfinder-countries to fulfil their commitments to keeping children safe, including by connecting policy makers and practioners and developing multi-sectoral national plans of action and roadmaps to end child violence; 

-    In 2018, incubated the Safe to Learn Initiative and mobilized commitment of key leading organizations in education and child protection on the basis of the 2018 “Youth Manifesto”; 

-    Extended the GPEVAC-membership to over 335 organizations from civil society, governments, bilateral/multilaterals, private sector, foundations etc. up from 270 in 2017; 

-    Awarded $38 million in grants from the End Violence Fund to 48 partners managing 47 projects to tackle online child sexual abuse, violence against children in conflict: by the end of 2018, funding contributed to benefit more than 130,000 children worldwide to educate and raise awareness about online safety; in Nigeria and Uganda, it enabled 12 grantee partners to worked to prevent further violence against children in crises by addressing cultural norms and values detrimental to children’s rights, including key messages on the importance of children’s rights, protection from unexploded ordinance, and pathways for child welfare service provision for 679,000 children, caregivers, community members.
