Core Contribution to Decent Work Alliance 2025 – 2028
Solidar Suisse and Brücke Le Pont are joining forces in the Decent Work Alliance to contribute to an inclusive and sustainable economy and decent jobs in the fight against poverty. Both Alliance partners empha-size Decent Work (SDG 8), carving a unique niche in Swiss international cooperation. Due to their trade union background, the Alliance partners can credibly access sections of the Swiss population that are difficult to reach for other actors, to strengthen their understanding for international cooperation.

- Decent Work - Workers' Rights: Persons at risk of exploitation, exclusion or other forms of pre-carious work (including climate-related) have ex-perienced a significant improvement in working conditions and social protection and exercise their rights.
- Decent Work - Training, Job Skills and Labour Market Integration: Disadvantaged youth and adults have enhanced their job and employability skills and improved their access to the labour market.
- Decent Work - Economic Empowerment: Target groups have improved their economic living con-ditions.
- Democracy Civil Society and Sensitisation: A of democracy, non-violence, rule of law, and hu-man rights is established. Democratic local gov-ernance allows inclusive decision-making with citizens and civil society organisations, leading to tangible improvements in power, resource dis-tribution, public service accessibility, and ad-dressing climate change impacts.
- Disaster & Crisis: Households and people af-fected by disaster and crises meet their basic needs and recovered dignified living conditions and strengthen their resilience and adaptive ca-pacities to cope with and/or adapt to the crisis and to pursue durable solutions.

Contexte | The international environment is character-ised by numerous multiple crises. The consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the escala-tion in the Middle East, food insecurity, debt burden and inflation, climate change and the energy crisis are all having a direct impact on the world's population. They particularly affect the most vulnerable, mostly women and children and result in increasing humanitarian needs. Accelerated change is accompanied by in-creased uncertainty: The world is becoming more frag-mented, unstable and unpredictable. Whilst the vision to reach the Sustainable Development Goals remains, challenges including the accelerating global food and nutrition crisis, shrinking civic and humanitarian space, the erosion of rule of law, intensifying armed conflicts, more frequent climate-related disasters, international migration and internal displacement, exacerbated de-mographics and an important gender gap hamper pro-gress in reaching them and pose a main challenge for all actors engaged in Switzerland’s International Coop-eration. To counter these challenges, especially also the growing disparity in wealth and income distribution in many regions, the Alliance partners prioritise the ed-ucation of marginalised groups, especially women and youth, advocate for robust social security systems and equitable tax systems. |

The Decent Work Alliance informed over 493,000 mar-ginalised workers (e.g. in the textile sector, domestic workers, or day labourers in agriculture) about their la-bour rights or gave legal advice. 182 initiatives that led to significant improvements in social protection or work-ing conditions were adopted, benefitting over 172,000 workers. Textile workers in El Salvador and Honduras benefited from compensation payments made totalling more than 5 million US dollars and increase in minimum wages. 25,000 youth and young adults benefited from job place-ment measures and/or entrepreneurship training. De-spite high economic pressure, 11,000 of them were ableto take up employment or start their own business after the trainings. 65,000 people along value chains and members of farming cooperatives increased the quantity of the pro-duced products. A total of 71,800 people along value chains experienced an increase in their income of at least 10%. The Decent Work Alliance and its partner organisations brought forward 375 initiatives in local policy and plan-ning processes, out of which 339 were adopted. 135’900 crisis-affected people’s most urgent needs were met with early recovery assistance. 1’742’600 people benefited from locally implemented disaster risk reduction measures. A total of 87’800 people were ena-bled to strengthen their resilience through an increase of their capacity to resist shocks and stresses. |
Résultats de l'engagement déployé à ce jour par la Suisse | The project Vida Digna sin Violencia in Bolivia brought together 50 active local multi-stakeholder networks in-cluding 44 women organisations fighting gender-based violence, achieving that five local governments dedi-cated additional own funds for prevention and/or assis-tance to GBV survivors, GBV manuals were developed. Police units, public prosecutors and courts took over the manuals for legal action. Regarding Gender equality, Prevention Sexual Exploitation Abuse and Harassment was a key theme in training for Solidar for both 2023 and 2024. It started in 2021 with a training especially tar-geted the HQ management team, a set of trainings was developed for all employees, containing a mandatory in-duction training suitable for all employees worldwide and an advanced training aiming at management posi-tions in the countries and specific positions such as pro-ject and programme officers. |

The role of Swiss NGOs in the implementation of the Swiss IC Strategy 2025-28 shall be strength-ened through: a) sharpening the narrative on the importance of the core contribution, b) an inclusive policy dialogue, c) Locally led development and d) potential adaptations of programmes and ap-proaches (reforms in the larger sense). |
