Youth for Change
Switzerland contributes to the overall strategy of the youth organization Mozaik in its efforts to mobilize and empower young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Young people will develop their competences and mobilize their peers in youth-led community projects. Successful and motivated young people will be further supported in their entrepreneurial endeavors aiming at positive social impact and creation of decent jobs. They will serve as role models for other youth and lay the groundwork for social and economic change in their local communities.

Hintergrund | A recent survey in 2021 found that 47% of Bosnians aged 18-29 (which represents 269,000 people) are thinking of going abroad temporarily or for good, mainly due to lack of jobs (32.9% youth unemployment), poor public services and endemic corruption. These trends to outward migration, combined with an aging population, will result in rapid depopulation. There is thus a strong need to address negative demographic trends by creating favourable conditions for the life of all members of society, especially young people. This includes building a robust labour market, creating job opportunities for all interested and increasing the economic and social attractiveness of the country. Socially responsible youth-oriented programmes focusing on skills- and confidence-building as well as income generation can set positive examples and open up opportunities for youth to become real actors of change. |
