Regional Aguasan Programme
Swiss cooperation is well recognized in the water supply and sanitation sector in Honduras and Nicaragua. Regional activities in Central America enhance coverage, strengthen capacity building, support the harmonisation of sector specific plans and strengthen the formulation of policies at a regional level.

- Water supply and sanitation is on the agenda of the Central American States. Good progress has been made in reaching the MDGs, however a certain slow-down is noticeable.
- All Central American countries have a relatively high external vulnerability due to climate change and limited economic resources to maintain and expand the coverage of water and sanitation services.
- The regional high-level forum in water and sanitation (FOCARD-APS) is being supported and funded by the member states. FOCARD-APS plays a key role in: the regional cooperation among the member states; the regional policy development; and in knowledge management.
- The main national and regional actors in the water and sanitation sector have improved their efficiency and the effectiveness of their policies and programmes
- The impact and the visibility of the Aguasan programmes has been increased and the process of integration with the Governance programmes has been facilitated
- Development of capacities of national and local actors on water and sanitation policies.
- Support the coordination of the biannual LATINOSAN seminar in Central America. Through FOCARD, support national studies and analyses of sector relevant issues.
- Support the development of tools for sector analysis and harmonization of national policies at a regional level.
