Promoting Water Stewardship 2030
Projekt abgeschlossen
Water stewardship fosters responsible private engagement in water. This programme aims at shaping the collaboration with the private sector for the benefit of society and natural resources. This SDC contribution will promote and institutionalize multi-stakeholder water dialogue by supporting several public-private partnership initiatives. It will facilitate exchange of knowledge leading to changes in practices and behaviours across sectors and stakeholders.

Hintergrund | Increased competition among different water users results in overuse and pollution of surface water and over-abstraction of groundwater, which in turn creates public health risks. By 2030, over 40% of the world’s population will be living in water-stressed river basins. In many countries, water scarcity can pose a significant threat to national security and spur conflict in already instable and fragile regions. As water is a key resource for competing users sustainable water management needs to be addressed in accordance with all and at basin level. |
Ziele | Water resources are managed sustainably, in particular by responsible private sector, through collective accountability and bottom-up efforts by all water users. |
Zielgruppen | private sector (global and domestic private sector, notably on SMEs); countries / governments (national and sub-national level), citizens (incl. women and young people), academic sector, civil society, |
