Improving food availability and access for vulnerable populations in Akobo East
This project aims at contributing to the improvement of food security and resilience of the population in Akobo East (Jonglei), through enhancing agricultural productivity, increasing incomes, and promoting alternative livelihood options. Akobo East faces crisis levels of food insecurity, but has the potential for agricultural development. To address the volatile situation, the project also contains an emergency component to respond to urgent humanitarian needs, if required.

Hintergrund | Akobo East is an agro-pastoral zone with cattle keeping and agriculture as main livelihoods. The County’s population is currently experiencing crisis levels of food insecurity and malnutrition. This is caused by climatic and geographic challenges, a disastrous economic downturn, as well as impacts of conflict and violence. However, there is a potential for strengthening the resilience of the affected population through agricultural investment, improved farming techniques and livelihood diversification. |
Ziele | To improve food availability and access for vulnerable populations through modern agricultural practices, with response to protracted crisis, while creating resilience to external shocks. |
