Progetto concluso

SWISSAID aims at empowering poor rural populations to improve their livelihoods by ecological farming, income generation, enhanced access to natural resources and the ability to influence policies (and their implementation) having a bearing on their lives. In countries where revenues from extraction of mineral resources are available, the programme aims at empowering civil society organisations to ensure transparency in revenue flows and their application for poverty reduction and sustainable development.

Contesto

  • Rural areas characterised by low value addi­tion and limited ability of population to improve living conditions.

  • Countries with revenues from extraction of minerals resources where transparency of re­source flows can contribute to poverty reduc­tion and sustainable development.

  • Poverty reduced in rural areas through livelihood interventions

  • Sustainable development and poverty reduction to be enhanced through transparency in revenues from extraction of mineral resources.
Gruppi target

  • Poor peasant farmer families (including landless labor­ers and small rural entrepreneurs).

  • The poor in countries where revenues from extractive industries can contribute to poverty reduction and sus­tainable development.

Effetti a medio termine

  • Livelihoods of poor peasant farming families to be improved through ecological farming, income generating activities, improved access to natural resources and local markets and enhanced policy influencing.

  • Civil society organisations strengthened/enabled to influence relevant policies.

  • Transparency achieved in revenues from extraction of mineral resources and participation of civil society to ensure their use for poverty reduction purposes.

Risultati

Risultati principali attesi:  

  • Training/coaching of local partner organisa­tions and members of target groups.

  • Provision of technical expertise and funding for interventions in livelihood improvement, policy influencing and transparency of reve­nue flows from extractive industries.


Risultati fasi precedenti:  

  • Good countrywise contextualisation of objec­tives and programmes and improved monitoring system.

  • Generally relevant and effective interventions.

  • Evidenced based studies on organic farming.

  • Limited reach on the ground (due to being a small actor) calls for more focus on key themes and increased efforts at achieving structural changes (evidence based policy in­fluencing).
