Swissaid

Progetto concluso

SWISSAID aims at empowering poor rural populations to improve their livelihoods by ecological farming, income generation, enhanced access to natural resources and the ability to influence policies (and their implementation) having a bearing on their lives. In countries where revenues from extraction of mineral resources are available, the programme aims at empowering civil society organisations to ensure transparency in revenue flows and their application for poverty reduction and sustainable development.

Risultati

Risultati fasi precedenti:

  • Increased food security for small scale farmers through training in agro ecological techniques. 25’000 farmers benefited from Swissaid’s support.
  • In Ecuador and Niger 42’000 persons benefited from access to save drinking water.
  • In India, 2’500 Advasi families obtained land titles and Community Forestry-Certificates were received for over 3’700 hectares of forest.
  • Evidenced based studies on organic farming
  • Limited reach on the ground (due to being a small actor) calls for more focus on key themes and increased efforts at achieving structural changes (evidence based policy influencing)

Knowledge exchange on agro ecological production in Africa:

  • In order to confirm the added value of agro ecological production methods in (West-)Africa, Swissaid conducted three case studies (Guinea-Bissau, Niger and Chad). The results have been shared with SDC colleagues and other Swiss NGOs working in this field. Two seminars in 2015 and 2016 with over a 100 participants have been organized jointly with SDC’s Global Program Food Security as well as an e-discussion on SDG No. 2.
  • It has been confirmed that agro ecological production techniques have been proven sustainable and resilient in regions affected by the consequences of climate change. However, international, regional policies declarations towards sustainable food systems need to be substantiated by concrete implementation of action plans. Moreover, business models have to be developed in order to remunerate small scale farmers using agro ecological production methods for positive externalities on the environment.
